Module name: Culture and Healing.


MODULE PURPOSE 

This module will provide students with an understanding of the impact of cultural frameworks on their notions of pathology and healing. Specifically, it analyses and demonstrates the relationship between personal and cultural pathology, belief systems and core values and assumptions and their impact on identity formation and meaning.

CONTENT SUMMARY

The module will examine and analyse culture and its consequences on human growth and development. It will compare and contrast images of healing and pathology in Western culture and images of healing and pathology in non-Western cultures. It will explore the impact of cultural assumptions on approaches to healing and ill health. In particular, students will explore healing and pathology in: Australian indigenous cultures and also shamanic, Chinese and African cultures and in other pre-modern European cultures.

Module name: The Therapeutic Relationship.

MODULE PURPOSE 

This module will provide training in essential counselling skills within the framework of the therapeutic relationship.
